Fwd: Tumut

Begin forwarded message:

A couple of nights beside the Tumut River. Water rushing past as it has been released from Blowering Dam all part of the Snowy Hydro system. Tumut is north of Wodonga on the edge of the Snowy Mountains. Rehash a big drive over 250 kms today up the mountains
Very pretty and rugged. Seemed to be a lot of dead trees. Passed the Tumut power station which was absolutely massive. The trees around this valley are very impressive. The elm trees enormous as you can see by the one Reece is standing in front of. Local farmers market yesterday we bought the most delicious stone fruit and apples
This area grows apples stone fruit and berries so the orchards on hillsides are all covered with netting . It would be so pretty in spring. Pretty warm here today. Our fans are on.it gets very cold but no snow here. Love to you all. Pen

On the road again. Cowra

Lunch stop by the river in Cowra. Cold lamb and chutney sandwiches. Left Sydney yesterday and had the night at  Macquarie Woods between Orange and Bathurst. It is in a state forest with pine forest surrounding. Tonight will be by the river at Jugiong near Yass then Canberra. Weather warm but not too hot. At least it isn't humid. Beautiful rolling hills.pretty dry. Orange is a very pretty town. Beautiful old houses. Streets lined with magnificent trees. Wide streets. Every facility available. Wineries, orchards, Myers, great shops, and only three hours from Sydney.

Emily's third birthday

Happy birthday Emily. Our last night in Sydney and we celebrated Emily birthday with fish and chips and ice cream cake and chocolate freddo frogs. So sweet . Lucas had given me two rocks so they will remind me of him and Emily. So they are in a special spot on the bench.

Sydney roundup

Well today is Monday and we leave Sydney next Sunday so our time here is nearly at an end!
We will both be very sad to leave the family, our hugs and cuddles with Lucas and Emily. This has been such a joy to be a part of their life seeing them twice a week. Watching them grow, Lucas starting school and turning 5, Emily will be 3 on Thursday but we will celebrate this Saturday with cake and fish and chips at the caravan. They are both so gorgeous. Both love each other so much, hug each other generously. Emily knows her own mind and if she doesn't like something the finger wags and she says stop it stop it. Good on her ... She will be a strong independent woman just like her Mummy! And Lucas quick as a flash and smart as a whip. Both loving the pool and become very much more confident.
There are some things in Sydney which I have enjoyed......

Views of the harbour.
Catching up with old friends and family. Sal Mellocco, Auntie Diney, Rob and Denise Campbell, nursing pals Sheryl and Rob Taylor, Mary Ann and James Heagney, Blanche Unbehaun, Kelly and Beau Riley, Kelly's parents holidaying from UK, Lori and Charty Riley, Jude Stephens, Andrew and Stephen Hurley... So quite a gaggle of friends. BUT the best has been seeing the Ryan Family on a regular basis.
Other things are

Lunch at the Boathouse Palm Beach.
Dirty Dancing musical with Jo.
Kids concert at Opera House with Lucas and Emily.
Cruise to Fiji.
Xmas at Randwick.
Seeing mum with her great grandchildren in November.
A good haircut in Mosman.
Sea planes and helicopters flying overhead here at Narrabeen taking the rich and famous to their houses in Palm Beach.
Beach and rock pools.
Shopping at Aldi. Grog shopping at Dan Murphy.
Lucas staying with us at the caravan.
Me having a sleepover with the kids in Randwick while Jo and Rich had a night away.
Dinner last Friday with Jo and Rich and staying at Blue Hotel, Woolloomooloo.
Becoming more confident getting around Sydney and knowing different areas.
Pretty gardens with so much hedging, particularly orange jessamine which has such a divine perfume.
Beautiful views of Harbour

Things not so good....
Humidity.
Rain.
Traffic.... But it is ok here in the suburbs.
Long way from Perth.

So our plan from now is to go to Canberra next Sunday. Will revisit War Memorial, High Court and a few other spots.. Then wend our way to Wodonga to see Julie and Ian Dodds. From there we will explore some of the High Country of Victoria.....Mansfield, Myyrtleford, King Valley, Mt Buller, then to Balnarring, Mornington Peninsular ( 23 march till 9 April ) visit Vance Cocks, Emily Hurley and Sam and Wobo Riley. We will meet Di and Jamie Morrison on Kangaroo island on May 14 for a week. I will fly home from Adelaide beginning of May for ten days. After Kangaroo Island will go to Port Lincoln and rediscover the Eyre Peninsular. ... Then the Nullabor. And home in July. Love that Nullabor drive.
Hope you are all well and happy.

Love Penelope

Mode of travel.

The buses are enormous and they usually pull a car behind. After a beautiful summer day yesterday we have cloudy grey skies again. Seems to be the norm for Sydney.

Fun

Lucas had a busy time when he stayed for two nights in the caravan.... boy stuff digging holes in the mud. Riding his bike, helping Pappy, painting, haircut and exhausted at the end of the day. Unfortunately we had rain the whole time but it didn't stop him playing in the lagoon and at the water park

Lunch

We had a lovely day today. Andrew and Stephen Hurley and girlfriends came for lunch. Jo and Rich joined us too after having a night away and went to the Asian Cup final at Homebush. I am a bit tired now after having a sleepover with Lucas and Emily last night. Emily awake very early but I was able to coax her into a bit more sleep and cuddle in bed.Lucky me having such a special time with them. I will miss them when we leave at the end of the month.
