Off to meet Alex and Carole Withers tonight. Reece worked with him in Merredin before we married. So it is many years between drinks . He is now an Anglican minister. Used to be a poppy farmer.

Seahorse World at Beauty Point
This was a really interesting tour. They breed seahorses for world market and pet shops. But not for the Chinese medicine trade. There were some really pretty ones but the breeding ones seemed to be of the brownish variety and with so many altogether they looked a bit like baby snakes . They sell for $20-30 each. I was even able to hold one.

Beaconsfield Mine
We went to the mine which is right in town. I found it pretty incredible to see how the two men were in such a small possie. The coloured wall is dedicated to a tight knit community. The plan was to knit scarves over 900 meters the distance they ere trapped underground, but it grew and grew and is over two kms.

Longford, Launceston, Tamar Valley, Beauty Point
Hi all, so disappointing, I am having technical difficulties sending pics from my fancy new smart phone. I guess I am just not smart enough to figure it out yet. Saw in the paper this morning some dumb blond is trying to look like Barbie doll and wants her brain to be dumber. How dumb is she already.
Longford was lovely. Unfortunately we had to leave our beautiful campsite as the park was booked out with people going to the Penny Farthing festival at nearby Evandale. Never mind, we are now at Beauty Point (love the name) on the banks of the Tamar River. We have a great view of the river from the caravan and each site has a hedge around so nice and protected and quite private. The nearest town in Beaconsfield where the men were stuck in the mine for 14 days. There is also a seahorse research farm and platypus research too. I will visit these places tomorrow. While in Longford I went to two world heritage listened properties. Woolmers and Brickendon. Both started by Archer family with the the workforce of 50 plus convicts. They were both very interesting esp Woolmers as the house is open for guided tours. The outhouses shearing shed ,chapel, etc still in remarkable condition and plenty of tourists wandering around. Woolmers also has an incredible national rose garden which was gorgeous to wander around and enjoy the flowers and fragrance.
Our friend Jill and Joe Poupe visited on Wednesday night. We met them last year in Lane Cove and met up twice more in Noosa and Harrington. They are really good fun and we had lots of laughs. They are from Launceston (known locally as Lonny) and back for a few weeks. Jill nursing at her old workplace in aged care and Joe doing some work with his son in law. They are just waiting for their new caravan to be finished and will be on the road again end of this month. We will see them some more before they go.
Reece bought a fabulous new toy. It is a hobie outback kayak. Very durable, good flotation and it is designed to go fishing on. So today was the first go and all went well. I will have a go tomorrow.This afternoon he has been sorting out the car etc in order to find special spots for the hobie gear. This will be lots of fun.
Today beautiful and clear, sunshine, not too hot just perfect for me. Yesterday we had the most incredibly windy 24 hours. Couldn't do anything. Fortunately both happy with a book.
Will have another night here then probably head north west along the coast.
We have both decided that we like Launceston rather than Hobart. It has surprised us that everything is dry, I am dumb and expected green lush everywhere , but they have had no summer rain. It is a little greener up north here and people seem to water their gardens a little more.lawns in Perth are much greener than here!!!!no water shortage here they just don't want to pay for it. Not recycling in Tassie which as a greenie state we found quite interesting. The greens don't seem to be well respected here. Just want the place to stay as it is, and that isn't too much except for tourism. Not a lot going on here.
Well nearly 6pm so time for a drink.
