Lakes Entrance to Wilsons Prom

We stopped at Lakes Entrance on Monday but we were horrified at the cost. Just because it was a long weekend in Victoria with Melbourne cup that charade us $58 per night...so we only stayed one!! Quite a busy touris spot with a long esplanade and many fishing trawler. A decent size town and lots of fabulous views over the lakes. Left there yesterday and had a lovely drive through Gippsland . Lakes a plenty. We hugged the coast as much as possible and drove down the 90 mile beach and we were very surmised to find designated free camp spots all the way along. We chose C15 and had it all to ourselves....the beach just over the Sandhills was very rough and rugged. Too windy to spend any time on the beach. Two volunteers from the CFA ( country fire fighters ) came by checking fires etc. chat chat chat...told me all sorts of remedies for mossie bites...500 mls mouthwash and add 40 drops of lemon grass essence. Shake well and spray to deter mossies....we thought they would never go. But they do an amazing job. Delicious dinner cooked by chef Reece was flathead fillets cooked over coals in the wire Italian grilled. Absolutely yummy.
Today we had a drive on to Wilsons Promontory, known locally as the prom, through cow country. Flat lowlands full of healthy looking cows and sheep. Lots of cut hay in bales and greed paddocks. Stopped by two little seaside towns Port Albert and Port Weshpool, fishing towns. Both very pretty. We are now set up at the Prom. Had lunch quick rest and then we will check out the beaches. It looks quite similar to Esperance and Denmark. The whole area is a national park. We are paying $33 a night for unpowered site. A large park with plenty of space. Good facilities ie loos are clean... Will send some pics through off my phone.

Love Pen
