Emerald Show

We have just got home from the Show. We sure saw plenty of cowboys, big hats, big belts, pig races, flower show, horse riding, big tractors, old tractors, wood chopping lots of side show stuff. It was ALL there. Pretty quiet down side show alley but I'm sure it will be buzzing tonight. It is a pretty big affair... Even fireworks tonight.

You really know you are in cowboy country when they have country music playing in the loos all the time in the caravan park. Last night we had some poor decrepit old bloke playing country guitar and singing country music very badly. We could see all the activity from our van, so we didn't need to join the crowd who had brought their chairs, drinks and partook of the sausage sizzle. What a shame we won't be here on Saturday to hear him again.

Reece was  out early this morning in the kayak to get the nets and got  good feed of red claw. Not as tasty as my favourite .. Prawn ... but pretty good in the fresh white bread and special Reece sauce. Red claw is like a yabbie and there are heaps of them here in the lake. We are near lake Fairbairn which is three times the area of Sydney harbour and the catchment is incredibly enormous. On the way into town we passed a huge orchard, it is the biggest mandarin orchard in the Southern Hemisphere fed from this dam and onto the market before the supply in the south.

Plenty of crops grown here on the beautiful rich brown soil cotton, chip pea , sorghum, Lucerne, wheat. Cotton planted in sept then harvested in feb then they can get another crop in so two crops for the one area in a year. It is dry tho, no summer rain.

We are off tomorrow for Longreach.  Over 400 kms so will overnight on the road somewhere.

Great win by the dockers on the weekend...

Gotta go... Love pen
