What a sad old place this is. Like so many towns they are dying or dead. 20 kids at the school, a drive in hardly used, no shops just a very skanky cafe which was disgusting. However there is a very nice free camp area along the river and there would have been more than 20 vans there. Lovely. Quiet, millions of stars. I did a walk around town and all the houses were so neglected, run down and for sale. I happened to have a chat with Elaine who lives in one of these houses. She was yelling at her three dogs who were barking at me .two big black dogs and a dingo. ! She invited me to meet her friend and have a cuppa. She clearly said she was not into housekeeping or gardening. So we sat in a garage area with so much junk all around and chatted. Her friend lives on a cattle station out of town. Fortunately they are not drought affected as they got some rain from the flash flood six weeks ago.
Today we travelled on to Longreach. It is smaller than I thought seeing it services such a large area. Lots of big hats, jeans, check shirts ....cowboys and cowgirls. Will do the tourist things tomorrow. Qantas and the stockman hall of fame and show. Big caravan park with 300 sites and cabins. All very dry.....drought.!!! the country all around here is very flat and dry as buggery. Flat as far as you can see. But lots of floodplains too. Huge trucks. Three trailer road trains. Sun just going down. cool breeze. Love Pen
